Grief Counselling

Everyone experiences grief and loss at some stage of their life, whether their own or others around them. Many people are uncertain how to respond to grief, or how to process their own. People can grieve for many different reasons, such as: loss of a loved one; relationship breakdowns; change in visions or expectations of the future; loss of a pet; financial loss; witnessing or supporting the grief of others; loneliness or isolation.

Grief counselling provides a safe environment for you to express and explore your grief without judgement. For some people, grieving may be accompanied by a range of constantly fluctuating emotions which can feel exhausting while in the midst of it. Others may relate to feeling emotionally numb, or actively distancing themselves from their grief by keeping busily distracted. A frequent question commonly asked by those who are experiencing grief is “but where do I start?”.

By exploring your grief within the counselling space, we can empower you to begin processing your thoughts and feelings about your loss in more manageable parts that feel less overwhelming. Processing grief is a personal experience: for some it may involve reminiscing over photos or memorabilia; for others it may be sharing stories; for others still, it may involve various spiritual or religious beliefs or notions. Everyone’s journey through grief and loss is unique, and grief counselling based off this premise, allows you the time and space to explore and implement your own approach to processing your grief. Grief counselling can also assist you in connecting with your support network, or in working with you to find a sense of meaning or direction from your grief.
